We didn't heard about FMEA in Soviet Union, so B. L. Zlotin and A. V. Zusman have developed AFD, which has some features of FMEA. Now their company III works in this direction.

AFD = Anticipatory Failure Determination: A method for systematically identifying and eliminating system failures - before they occur. This method, in effect, invents failure mechanisms and then examines the possibility of their actually occurring.

S.D. Savransky studied Root Case Analysis in USA and feels that TRIZ can be useful in this field as well. Some ideas presented in our papers. Unfortunately, we don't have time for its development in this area.
